Northeast Alabama Community College is located on the northwest border of the town.
==Geography==
Powell is located along the northwestern border of DeKalb County at (34.533483, -85.894598). Jackson County is to the northwest, and the city of Rainsville borders Powell to the southeast.
Alabama State Route 35 passes through Powell, leading northwest to Scottsboro and southeast through Rainsville to Fort Payne, the DeKalb County seat.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Powell has a total area of , all of it land.〔
